Cupping is getting recognized in the west in recent years. People often ask, what is cupping? How does it work? What are the benefits? Is it right for me?
Let’s answer some of those questions about cupping.
Cupping Treatment

What is cupping?

Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. It might be trendy now, but it’s not new. It dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks globally, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C

How does it work?

Cupping is used extensively in Chinese medicine. It increases blood circulation to the areas where the cups are placed.

What are the benefits?

Cupping relieves muscle tension, which improves overall blood flow and promotes cell repair. It also helps form new connective tissues and creates new blood vessels in the tissue.

What’s up with the red circles?

You may see circles of discoloration from red to dark purple, where the cups were placed. They fade away between 2-7 days. The darker the color, the longer it takes to fade away. Cupping treatment itself, in general, is very safe. You may feel some pressure at where the cups are, and some people may get mild skin irritation.
